Kambaba jasper

The exotic Kambaba jasper is an orbicular jasper from South Africa and Madagascar, this precious stone is known to mineralogists under the name of Green Stromatolite Jasper, because it is a fossilized stromatolite, a structure formed by blue algae from sedimentary materials in the ancient warm oceans. Some fossilized stromatolites are up to 3 billion years old!

Kambaba jasper was originally called green stromatolite jasper and today bears the trade name of Kambaba or crocodile jasper.
