Apaté is the goddess of deception, fraud and deception. In Greek mythology, when Pandora opened the box of the same name, Apaté was one of the evils that came out of it. The name of the apatite is evocative: it comes from the Greek "to deceive". Apatite may have once thrown powder in the eyes of some; its multiple colors and varieties could sow doubt for meny, and allow it to be confused with meny other gems.

This gemstone is the subject of a commercial extraction especially in Brazil, Madagascar and Mexico.

Apatite exists in meny colors and this is one reason why it is frequently confused with other gemstones. Apatite is “allochromatic” and presents a diversified palette of colors, the fruit of the presence of rare elements in the soil which gave birth to it.
